High resolution color digital imagery was acquired at 2000 ft. above-ground under full cloud cover with light rain. Winds
varied in speed between 25-30 mph. Despite the turbulent flight conditions and poor illumination, over-lapping, stereo
images were processed into 8-inch resolution image maps for spatial analysis. The area bordered in yellow above
serves to demonstrate thematic image detection of tunnel features represented by old, abandoned mine shafts in the
Mojave desert. The results show the explicit and automatic detection of tunnel openings from processed imagery.
